The final ship of the large relief flotilla seeking to penetrate Israel's 16-year maritime restriction on the Gaza Strip has been stopped by Israeli defense units.

Mission Stoppage and Deportation Procedures

Based on government announcements, procedures are now underway to expel the approximately nearly five hundred crew members currently in detention. Among those detained are several Italian parliamentarians who are anticipated to go back to Italy on a planned flight.

Footage from late Thursday showed the final ship being manned by multiple activists, featuring several Turkey's individuals, a Germany's citizen, and an Omani activist. The Australian skipper of the ship commented via live stream: "We have a contingent of very tough Turkey's participants onboard... we're just going to persist in our direction."

Per a protest official, the vessel had become part of the flotilla late after stormy conditions obliged it to go back to harbor in the Spanish city.

Previous Precedent

The halt marks the nearest any unsanctioned aid effort has advanced to the Palestinian territorial waters since Israel established its naval restriction in 2009. The vessel was stopped when it was calculated to be 42.5 sea miles from the shoreline.
